I found several short documentaries on YouTube that have been broadcast on BBC Urdu. I’m not sure if such documentaries or if these kinds of stories are presented in Pakistani TV channels.

This is the tenth short documentary in the Shehr Kahani series. It is about Balram, who supports his family by selling balloons and stamping mehndi tattoos on children. But he wishes he was born in a ‘rich’ family so that he could go to school.

Shot and Directed by Zulfiqar Memon and Afaq Khokhar from Interactive Resource Centre, Pakistan, and presented on BBC Urdu.

Film is in Urdu language.

This is an intense song. I saw Conor Oberts perform the song on Jay Leno. I was a little shocked that they allowed Oberts to sing this on television.

Watch it:

“Does he ever smell his own bullshit, when the President talks to God?”
“I doubt it….I doubt it…fil mishmish…fil mishmish.”

There’s a saying in Arabic, “fil mishmish,” which literally means “in the time of apricots,” and connotes something along the lines of “when pigs fly” or “wishful thinking”.
